Twelvemile Beach Campground at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Twelvemile Beach
For my 27th birthday, M took me to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. After a 5 hour drive and losing an hour to the eastern time zone, we arrived in Munising, MI. Munising was a small quaint town with a vibrantly blue bay and a looming egg-like island floating to the left of it. Since the road to the west entrance of the park was closed, we didn't visit Miner's Castle or do anything in that area and instead drove 40 miles to our campsite at Twelvemile Beach.

When we arrived, all but two of the lakeshore sites were taken and we were lucky to snag one with an incredible view of Lake Superior. The site sat behind a knoll and from the tent, the white beach and turquoise water peaked out. The day we were there, not a cloud was in the sky and though there was a brisk wind blowing onto shore, the beach ambiance wasn't ruined. Twelvemile was one of the prettiest campsites I had visited and with the price tag of $16 a night, why not give it a try?

There were stairs next to our site, leading down to the beach if you didn't want to walk down the dune

  2. Spectacular. This is my favorite spot to car camp in Michigan. Glad you enjoyed it!
